Data Sources & Verification
All nutrient values on this site come from the USDA FoodData Central — specifically the SR Legacy 2018 release, downloaded in full and loaded locally. Every food record carries its original USDA food ID (fdc_id), so any value can be traced back to the source database.
The nutrients used for ratings are:
- Phosphorus, sodium and potassium — the three minerals that drive every rating on this site.
- Protein, fiber, total sugar, alcohol — displayed for reference but never used in the rating.
- Purine and oxalate — shown where available as additional reference for people with coexisting conditions; these come from matching against our gout and kidney-stone food databases and are labelled "exact match" or "category estimate".
The daily limits used for ratings follow KDIGO 2024 / KDOQI guidance for CKD stage 3-4: phosphorus 1,000 mg, sodium 2,000 mg, potassium 2,000 mg per day.
Values marked as estimates are never presented as measured data. Where a value is unknown, the page says "No data" rather than guessing.
